Cosmic Visions:Festival of Psychedelia

August 1 @ 4:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Get ready to have your mind blown in the most pleasant and invigorating way at COSMIC VISIONS. Calderdale’s very own festival of psychedelia is back! You will experience all manner of mind expanding music from the gentle and meditative to the awe inspiring and bone quaking. This is a payf event. The following acts are taking part :
MIDNIGHT AURUM is an experimental guitarist creating beautiful miniature compositions for solo guitar taking inspiration from classical, jazz, blues, psychedelia, folk culture and the Fae.
ADMIRAL DROWSY is the song writing veneer of Luke Redfern Scott. After a lenthly time overseas, Luke is currently back in West Yorkshire and has reconvened with a group of old friends forming a new band, The Narwhals creating music with numerous guitars, drums, a few synthesisers and other potential oddities. His music has an unsettling dream- like quality with expressive yet restrained vocials and an off kilter ambience all its own. Expect a woozy ride that’ll take you to a place where lullaby pop mixes with wild shoegaze abandon.
“Like Syd Barrett if he’d survived, straightened up and reverted back to literate and idiosyncratic pop” – Elsewhere
“Challenging, adventurous and downright ominous” – RNZ
GERALDINE SNELL‘s brand of ethereal art pop is a beguiling blend of the natural and synthetic, the earthly and the supernatural. Inspired by eclectic influences – from classical and choral music through to dreampop and downtempo jazz her own music merges avant-garde subtleties with a soft-centred indie synth pop sensibility which is always anchored by the magnetic tenderness of her voice.
“sugar-coated, dream-pop” – Dirty Sunbeams
“Tender, ethereal, and hypnotic, channeling similar vibes to Julie Cruise, Laurie Anderson, James Blake, and Beach House.” – Hot Vox
SKY VALLEY MISTRESS Combine the ferocious guitar fuzz of Queens of the Stone Age, the Stooges and Black Sabbath. With their winning combination of Kayley’s rich soul voice and Max’s yearning full-throttle melodies Sky Valley Mistress take you between peaks of mountainous riffs and depths of granite-heavy desert rock grooves.
“Raucous rock and roll full of pace, power and explosive chemistry” – The Razor’s Edge
“A heavy, fuzzy, spaced-out ode to ’70s rock that manages to look to the future, even with one foot in the past” – Echoes And Dust
LEUCOTOME are a gothic Industrial folk band from Manchester who combine witchy pagan chants, electronic textures and minimalist pop into a heady brew in their sonic cauldron. Their sound reflects the murky depths of the UK DIY scene from which they crawled but takes their coldwave/post punk and goth influences somewhere magical and exciting
“Unplumbably murky and fascinating. The trio create shimmering and grinding theatre-folk like a lopsided Young Marble Giants” – The Quietus
“You’ll find yourself haunted by the divine genius of their electronically atmospheric sound” – Musik Magazine
JOSHUA ARNOLD & THERINE are an experimental folk duo known for their theatrical and intense performances.
Consisting of multi-instrumentalist Joshua Arnold and vocalist Therine. They perform traditional folk music of the British Isles showcasing themes of the dark and macabre blended with elements of drone and noise music alongside original drone folk pieces and historically accurate charms and prayers.
“Their brooding, sinister drone-folk definitely casts a spell” – Folking.com
“Their minimalist approach sets themselves apart from the scene. Raw and unvarnished. Off-kilter and affecting.” – The Quietus
BILLY BILLY 5p are an internationally unsuccessful “supergroup” featuring the least competent members of Leeds bands Two Minute Noodles and Hillary and the Hatecrimes, Liverpool bands The Walkingseeds and Star Spangled Banana, Calderdale bands FADS and KLONK and other acts that you haven’t heard of either. Like the power rangers used to they come together to make something far stronger than their own weedy selves.Their music is inventive, fun and constantly surprising mixing power pop, psychedelia, space rock and classic indie into a charming sound all of their own.
“Eclectic, eccentric and thoroughly joyous” – Louder Than War
