Guitar legend and ex Isotope bandleader Boyle has an impressive pedigree as a session player, sideman, band leader and solo artist – the list is simply jaw-dropping: Dusty Springfield, Brian Auger, Julie Driscoll, Mike Westbrook, Soft Machine, Mike Gibbs, Eberhard Weber, Keith Tippett, Eddie Harris and Bert Jansch for example.
And, of course, then there’s his award winning 1970’s fusion group Isotope and 1980’s trio Triple Echo.
In 1973 Boyle formed the jazz fusion band Isotope who recorded three albums and toured extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA. After Isotope disbanded Boyle recorded several solo albums, including the wonderful Triple Echo. The album was quite a departure from his earlier work, ‘beautifully reflective’ would be a more than fair description.
Guitarist Gary Boyle is a master musician well worth discovering / rediscovering.
By the way, it was his band – Triple Echo – that played the opening gig in the Puzzle’s much-lauded weekly Tuesday Night jazz series.
