SUMMARY:Eva Kiss + Patchwork Dots
DESCRIPTION:Eva Kiss is an up-and-coming grunge rock icon from Halifax. Taking inspiration from Nirvana\, Hole and SoundGarden whilst creating a sound of her own her soulful yet gritty vocals and powerful guitar work complement her band’s overdriven riffs and technical chops. With her raw narrative-driven songwriting she explores themes of sorrow\, spirituality\, liberation\, and mental health recovery expressed with the passion and tender vulnerability of a young Patti Smith or PJ Harvey. Eva Kiss is a talent not to be missed\, her natural gift for writing paired with her catchy melodies is surely a recipe for success.\n‘Spiky alternative grunge with sass\, power and charm’ – Old Man Blues\n‘Bristling with soulful melodrama this is catharsis at its most potent’ – Vinyl Fantasy\nhttps://evakiss.bandcamp.com/\nhttps://www.youtube.com/@MissEvaKiss\nPATCHWORK DOTS are a lo-fi acoustic indie rock collective from South Yorkshire fronted by Paul Jones. In their sound you can hear classic rock and folk influences combined with a 90s underground alternative rock approach to songwriting. With passionate vocals that recall grunge era icons\, a tender sense of melancholy and a tuneful melodicism that owes something to classic pop they will win over the hardest of hearts.\n.”Delightful indie rock like a mellower Queens Of The Stone Age” – The Songbird\n“Outstanding in terms of texture and warmth\, Patchwork Dot’s inventive guitar work and outside-the-box arrangements create a unique sound” – Ragmag\nhttps://patchworkdots.bandcamp.com/\nhttps://www.facebook.com/patchworkdots/\nhttps://www.youtube.com/@paTChwOrkdOts\nhttps://www.youtube.com/@MissEvaKiss

SUMMARY:Folk Night with Nick Hart & Tom Moore
DESCRIPTION:Welcome Easter in style\, with this rare and thrilling show for the astonishing duo of NICK HART & TOM MOORE – ancient songs draped in violin/viola drones and decorated with dance-tunes. They have no other shows on this tour in West Yorkshire\, nor any in the North West\, so don’t miss out!!\nOur events also feature floor-spots for local folk singers and musicians (with priority for new contributors); so please join us\, and perhaps join in!\nEntry to this and most other Puzzle Hall Inn events is free; we also invite voluntary contributions from the audience across the evening to further support the artists that we are hosting.\n* * * * *\nNick Hart and Tom Moore are an English folk duo whose debut album\, The Colour of Amber (2023)\, has been widely acclaimed for its vivid interpretations of traditional songs and tunes. The album pairs Hart’s tenor viol and distinctive vocals with Moore’s expressive viola\, enhanced by drones and bass from an antique church harmonium\, creating a sound that is both intimate and timeless. This unusual combination creates a rich set of textures\, the result is an absorbing expression of English music by two master players.\nBoth musicians are highly respected in the folk world. Nick\, an award-winning singer and multi-instrumentalist\, has been described as “probably the finest interpreter of traditional English folk songs this generation has produced” (Tradfolk). Tom is a violist\, fiddle player and guitarist whose playing has been called “ingenious” (The Guardian) and “irresistible” (The Independent). He has performed across the UK and Europe in various ensembles and in recent years contributed as producer or engineer to a stack of albums.\nHart and Moore have worked together in various projects for over a decade. Tom contributed to all three of Nick’s acclaimed solo albums as strings player and engineer\, and the duo have remained close collaborators. Originally from mid-Norfolk\, Tom recently returned there after 12 years in London\, while Nick\, raised on the Essex/Cambridgeshire border\, now lives in Bristol.\n“Whatever these two turn their hands to turns to gold. The Colour of Amber stands as one of 2023’s finest traditional folk albums.” — Tradfolk\n“A stately beauty… simple\, yet utterly engaging. Nick and Tom bring familiar favourites vividly to life.” — At The Barrier\n“A shining example of the best in fusion and musical progression… absorbing and thoughtful” — Spiral Earth\n“This debut stands head and shoulders above almost any other English traditional album of recent years.” — KLOF Magazine

SUMMARY:Fuzzy Lights + Hexama
DESCRIPTION:Fuzzy Lights (Cambridge)Acclaimed experimental psych-folk quintet from the Fens “…pitched somewhere between Pentangle and Black Sabbath. Superb stuff.” UNCUT 9/10https://fuzzylights.bandcamp.com/album/fen-creatures\nHexama (Bradford)Dark ambient synth and guitar drones feat. members of H Morse and Kontikihttps://hexama.bandcamp.com/\n\n FREE ENTRY with donations for bands gratefully accepted\n— more info —\nCambridge’s acclaimed psych-folk quintet Fuzzy Lights return with their fifth album ‘Fen Creatures’\, set for release in November via Meadows. Following 2021’s critically lauded ‘Burials’\, the band have created their most conceptually ambitious work to date – a meditation on environmental crisis that uses the folklore and history of East Anglia as a lens to examine humanity’s fractured relationship with the natural world.\nWhere ‘Burials’ explored personal trauma and environmental collapse\, ‘Fen Creatures’ expands this vision into something far more sweeping and interconnected. The album operates across multiple historical timelines\, from Iron Age hill forts to medieval plague houses\, from Byron’s Romantic-era environmental warnings to the immediate threat of rising sea levels\, creating a temporal tapestry that weaves ancient stories with contemporary concerns. “In the world we live\, with the challenges of environmental devastation and change\, it’s really important to reconnect to our history and the land around us\,” explains vocalist Rachel Watkins. “We need to learn lessons from the past and try to live with the landscape rather than changing it to fit our needs. The album calls attention to environmental change while exploring how folklore ties to the landscape and our connection to our ancestors.”Musically\, the quintet\, Rachel Watkins (vocals/violin)\, Xavier Watkins (guitar/electronics)\, Chris Rogers (guitar)\, Daniel Carney (bass)\, and Mark Blay (drums)\, have pushed deeper into experimental drone territories while maintaining the crystalline folk sensibilities that have become their signature. The result is their most atmospheric and immersive work to date\, with vast sonic landscapes that mirror the fenland geography they’re documenting.\nFEN CREATURES (2025)“…pitched somewhere between Pentangle and Black Sabbath. SUMMARY:Least We Got Shoes + Black Hill Band

Steeped in authenticity their music is a gritty fusion which blends rock\, bluegrass\, Americana\, and dashes of metal and punk\, creating a sound as true to their roots as the ground beneath their feet. ‘Boxcar rock’ – their chosen description of the sound they make combines the blue collar romanticism of Bruce Springsteen and winsome melancholy of The Smiths with the melodic chops and storytelling nous of Dire Straights.\n“Least We Got Shoes captivate audiences with their authentic storytelling and genuine musicality. Their music is a call to the wild\, a homage to the spirit of those who walk their own path\, resonating with the heartbeat of working-class life” – Moosic Entertainment\n“A gritty\, melodic blend of classic energy and modern edge” – Radio Wigwam\nhttps://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61551784352468#\nhttps://leastwegotshoes.bandcamp.com/\n\n  \n\nThe Black Hill Band are a new group from the lonesome hills of Calderdale made up of seasoned local players making their own unique twist on classic blues\, folk and country\nhttps://blackhillband1.bandcamp.com/

SUMMARY:A Freaky French Takeover - Chicaloyah + Barnabaie + Fun Fun Funeral
DESCRIPTION:Chicaloyoh (Beauregard)Alice Dourlen’s atmospheric and dreamlike minimalist post-folk with Sazhttps://chicaloyoh.bandcamp.com/\nBarnabaie (Villefranche De Rouergue)Effect laden classical guitar backed with tape and vocal fragmentshttps://barnabaie.bandcamp.com/\nFun Fun Funeral (Occitanie) Freak folk lo-fi pop for drum machine\, saturated synthesisers\, and bird song.https://funfunfuneral.bandcamp.com/\n\nFREE ENTRY with donations for bands gratefully accepted\n\n—more info—\nChicaloyohChicaloyoh is the solo project of French musician Alice Dourlen.Through her career\, Alice has had a fascinating trajectory\, we dare to say one of the most fascinating of this decade; never staying too much in one territory she has explored ritualistic pyschedelicism\, folk\, experimental music\, industrial\, collaging\, spoken word\, minimal synth to the point that those tags have become meaningless. Never being generic always a true original\, each phase sees her more and more in her own world. FFO: Grouper\, Nico\, Nurse With Wound\, Catherine Ribeiro\, Roberto di Simone.\nTracks of L’Inventaire des Disparitions have been recommended by The Quietus on their monthly Rockfort mix and by the Independent Music Podcast in UK.\n“Chicoloyoh’s sound is incredibly unique\, best described as darkly introspective. It’s a magical combination of minimalism (near-tribal drum beats\, drones\, and repetitive guitar lines) and chant-like vocals which are reminiscent of Nico.” (Soundrainreview)\n“Her Nico(esque) dronals seemed to pierce the gloom beautifully\, pinned to skuttering beats that reminded me of Danielle Dax in places\, as those loose rhythmic folds hungrily ate into the ritualised delivery. […] Curling vocals seemed to haunt the battlements of each song like a screech-less Diamanda Galás. Fallen angels of French baptised in lush keyboards that wavered between pop\, psych and something altogether more unquantifiable.” […] avec l’onirisme vicié des films de Kenneth Anger\, l’érotisme terrorisant de Sade\, l’esotérisme de carton pâte des maîtres mystificateurs Cagliostro\, Aleister Crowley ou Helena Blavatsky” (Le Drone)\nBarnabaieBarnabaie puts his classical guitar through effects\, adds fragments of tape recordings and adds some vocals here and there. The promise of a stroll along the riverbank with images flashing before the eyes. The sounds coil around themselves. The guitar can be heard and then appears clearly once we have agreed to lose ourselves in the sound textures manipulated by Barnabaie. The landscape has wandered.\nFun Fun Funeralfun fun funeral shares its sensitive and audacious pop-songs\, bursting with vitality: playful drum machines\, saturated synthesizer\, high-pitched voice and playground ambiences invite us to a hallucinated pop ceremony. A blend of influences from across the Channel and the Atlantic\, in the tradition of Micachu and Animal Collective.

Just five mates smashing out raw\, riff-heavy tunes with enough sweat and sarcasm to peel paint off the walls.Their sound is jagged\, unapologetic\, loud & in-your-face & danceable somewhere between a sucker punch to the face\, and a night out you only half-remember. They’re not trying to change the world. They just want to make it shake a bit (a lot).\n“Solid punk swagger” – Aural Aggravation\n“If you’ve never seen Moose Knuckle then you’re missing a crucial cultural experience” – Vanyaland\nhttps://www.instagram.com/mooseknucklehq/\nhttps://www.youtube.com/@MooseKnuckleHQ\nEurodaddy is the pre-dystopian electro-pop solo project of local musician Tom Pullan. Going from big beats to cult movie moments and back with influences such as Tiga and John Grant It’s music for proactive ditherers which celebrates both the pop and the peculiar.\nhttps://soundcloud.com/…/eurodaddy-and-shoez-plimsoul…\nhttps://trampledtodefrecords.bandcamp.com/album/mirror-man
